Today marked the exciting start of the 2024 Pan American Surf Games, featuring the first heats of women’s bodyboarding and SUP surf. Conditions improved, allowing athletes to showcase their best maneuvers on more organized waves.
Women’s Bodyboarding
The standout competitors included:
- Maira Viana (Brazil): Current IBC world champion, scored 12.33 points in her heat.
- Paloma Freyggang (Chile): Pan American champion, with a score of 10.60 points.
- Luz Marie Grande (Puerto Rico): Shined with a combined score of 9.44 points.
These three athletes achieved the highest scores in round 1, demonstrating their talent and preparation.
Men’s Bodyboarding
In round 3 for the men, scores increased alongside the wave size. Competitors showcased impressive maneuvers, highlighting:
- Alonso Aguilar (Mexico): 13.40 points combined.
- Kevin Torres (Chile): 13.05 points.
- Edwin Nuñez (Panama): 15.83 points, who had an exciting heat against Moises Silva (Chile), finishing with 15.53 points.
Both advanced with the best scores in the category.
SUP Surf
SUP surf also had its spotlight, featuring standout competitors like:
- Lucía Cosoleto (Argentina): Two-time world champion, scored 11.33 points.
- Aline Adisaka (Brazil): Pan American medalist, with 10 points.
- Vanía Torres (Peru): Stood out with the highest score of round 1, 15.34 points.
In the men’s category, Luis Diniz delivered an exceptional performance with 18.13 points, followed by Wellinton Reis(14.24 points), Tamil Martino (Peru, 14.77 points), and Gabriel Salazar (Chile, 12.17 points).
