Another marathon day with over 26 heats was held today, Wednesday, December 6 in the 2017 Pan American Claro Games presented by Herbalife, that is being held in the legendary waves of Punta Rocas, Lima, Peru.
Four categories competed this day, beginning with Rounds 2 of Open Men and Open Women, and the first Rounds of SUP Surf Men and SUP Surf Women.
The highest heat score of this day was for Peru’s Jose Gomez, who achieved a total of 17.34 in his SUP Surf Men’s heat. He defeated Matias Luengo from Uruguay (8.53), Dauryn Reynoso de Dominican Republic (8.33) and Felipe Marthe from Colombia (1.3).
“The work made by the Peruvian Surfing Federation and Peru’s Sports Institute is giving good results among the whole team. Peruvian team is strong right now and we want to stay in this line”, said Gomez during his live interview after finishing his heat.
The best competitor in Open Women’s was Melanie Giunta from Peru, with a total heat score of 13.43 and defeated her teammate Daniella Rosas (12.37), Dominic Barona from Ecuador (11.17) and México’s Leila Takeda (1.83).
In Open Men, Jonathan “Gato” Zambrano got the highest score, with a total heat score of 15.34. In second place Joaquin del Castillo from Peru advanced to the next round with 12.57, while Mexico’s Alan Cleland and Sebastian Olarte from Uruguay placed third and fourth and now are out of the competition.
The day closed with Women’s SUP Surf category, who had to battle against hard sea conditions. The best in this category where two Brazilians: Aline Adisaka with 11.74 and Fernanda de Freitas with 10.03 in the same heat.
Tomorrow the competition starts at 8:00 am and the first Gold Medals of the event will be crown after Men’s and Women’s SUP Technical Races. Both races will have 4600 meters and 5600 meters long, respectively.
Right after these races, Rounds 3 of Open Men’s and Open Women’s, and closing with the Longboard categories.
