How to qualify to Lima 2019

QUALIFICATION SYSTEM

Explanatory Document

The qualification events are listed in hierarchical order of qualification

OPEN SURF (16 places per gender)

  • Two (2) places for the highest ranked eligible athletes of the region at the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games.

    • A maximum of one (1) place can be earned by each country at the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games with an opportunity to earn a second spot if their country ranks 1st or 2nd in the Open Surf division at the 2018 PASA Games.

  • Ten (10) places for the highest ranked eligible athletes in the Open Surf Ranking of 2018 PASA Games.

    • Qualification is earned individually

    • The top 1st and 2nd country in the Open Surf Ranking per team per gender of the 2018 PASA Games will earn two places for athletes from their country based on the individual places of their athletes.

    • Countries ranked after 3rd place in the Open Surf Ranking per gender of the 2018 PASA Games shall be entitled to one place each based on the individual places of their athletes.

  • One (1) place for the the highest ranked eligible athlete in the 2018 ALAS Ranking.

  • One (1) place for the second highest ranked eligible athlete in the 2018 ALAS Ranking.

  • Two (2) places for the host country (Peru)

LONGBOARD (9 places per gender)

The maximum place per country for Longboard is one (1) athlete

  • One (1) place for the highest ranked eligible athlete of the region in the 2019 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship.

  • Seven (7) places for the seven highest ranked eligible athletes in the Longboard Ranking of the 2018 PASA Games.

  • One (1) place for the host country (Peru), following the same criteria mentioned above.

SUP SURF (9 places per gender)

The maximum place per country for SUP SURF is one (1) athlete.

  • One (1) place for the highest ranked eligible athlete of the region in the 2018 ISA World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship (WSUPPC).

  • Seven (7) places for the seven highest ranked eligible athletes in the SUP Surf Ranking of the 2018 PASA Games.

  • One (1) place for the host country (Peru), following the same criteria mentioned above.

SUP TECHNICAL RACE (10 places per gender)

The maximum place per country for SUP Technical Race is one (1) athlete.

  • One (1) place for the highest ranked eligible athlete of the region in the 2018 ISA WSUPPC.

  • Seven (7) places for the first seven highest ranked eligible athletes in the SUP Technical Race Ranking of the 2018 PASA Games

  • One (1) place for the highest ranked eligible athlete of the region in the 2018 APP World Tour.

  • One (1) place for the host country (Peru), following the same criteria mentioned above.

    1. IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. Qualification is individual; athletes from countries that have already met their country quota will transfer their spot to the next highest ranking athlete at that specific event via the hierarchy listed per division above.

  2. If a quota place allocated is not confirmed by the NOC by the deadline for confirmation or is declined by the NOC, the quota place will be reallocated to the next highest ranking athlete not yet qualified at the respective event, respecting the maximum quota places per discipline per NOC.

  3. The country rankings used to determine the country quotas for Open Surf in 2018 PASA Games will be the specific ranking of each division, NOT the 2018 PASA General Ranking, which includes ALL divisions.

  4. To be eligible to participate in the 2019 Pan American Games, all athletes must be in good standing with his/her National Federation (“NF”), PASA, and the ISA in accordance with the ISA Rulebook in force at the time of the 2019 Pan American Games.

  5. In case that a qualifying event (ISA, ALAS and/or APP) is not held, the places are automatically assigned to the next best qualified for each division of the 2018 PASA Division Ranking.
