Classic Punta Rocas conditions greeted the best surfers of the Americas during the first day of the Pan American Claro Games, presented by Herbalife in Lima, Peru.
During this first day the athletes of Open Men and Open Women categories gave their best to stay in competition. Due to the amount of competitors, this event does not have the second chance Repechage Rounds, which means that every heat is do-or-die.
The female competitors where the first to go into the water and show all their explosive surfing in the great waves of Punta Rocas.
In this category, the best wave of the day was for Mathea Olin from Canada, who scored 9.00 in her heat against Peru’s Daniella Rosas, and Colombia’s Sofia Loewy.
The best heat total was for Ecuador’s Dominic Barona, with a total score of 15.5 in Heat 11 against Kirra Silver from Mexico, Camila Toro from Venezuela and Natalie Camargo from Dominican Republic.
Around noon was the turn for the men to show their talents.
Peru’s Miguel Tudela scored the best wave of the day with 9.60. The best heat total was for Alonso Correa, also from Peru, who defeated Canada’s Michael Darling (12.20) and Juan Gerena from Puerto Rico (9.47).
Competition continues tomorrow with Rounds 2 of both Open Men and Open Women, followed by Rounds 1 of SUP Surf Men and SUP Surf Women.
