On this 8th day of competition at the 2023 PASA Pan American Surfing Games Panama, more champions were crowned and new athletes qualified to Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
Benoit Clemente from Peru and Finn Spencer from Canada are the newest Champions of the event, in Men’s Longboard and Men’s SUP Surf categories.
The first final on the water was Men’s Longboard, with good wave conditions as the tide began to rise, and Benoit Clemente, Julian Schweizer from Uruguay, Carlos Bahia from Brazil and Anthony Mesén Flores from Costa Rica in the water.
Peru’s Clemente took the lead and left no chance to his competitors to catch up with him, scoring a total of 15.46 to take his fifth Pan American Gold. In second with the Silver Medal finished Schweizer with 15.03, in third and the Bronze Medal was for Bahia and in fourth with the Copper Medal finished Mesén Flores with 9.96.
“Competition has been long, and there has been good conditions and other more complicated, but now all the load is off me. I want to congratulate Julian (Schweizer) for his great performance”, said the 5-time Pan American Longboard Champion.
For the SUP Surf Final, the brazilians Wellington Reis and Luiz Diniz took the lead in the first minutes, as they faced Canadian brothers Finn and Jeffrey Spencer.
Finn found a good wave that gave him an 8.10, and his last was a 6.90, for a total of 15.00, giving him enough boost to displace Reis in the Gold Medal position, which he kept until the end of the heat.
In second Reis scored 13.86 takind the Silver Medal, Diniz took the Bronze with 12.20 and Jeffrey Spencer took the Copper with 9.63.
Competition resumes tomorrow at 8:40am with Shortboard Semifinals and Finals, followed by the Award Ceremony were the Pan American Team Champions will be announced.
