2023 PASG Panama defines the Women’s Longboard Semifinalists

– Mathea Olin and Sindy Portillo highlight the 2nd day of competition

With a dazzling sun and great energy from the countries of the Americas that are gathered in Santa Catalina, Panama, the quarterfinals of the Women’s Longboard category took place, on the second day of the PASA Pan American Surfing Games (PASG) Panama 2023.

Heats eith a lot of action, where the waves and the level of the competitors dazzled the attendees who managed to see the skill of these surfers in the perfect rights of Santa Catalina.

The first Heat of the day started quite active, with the participation of Evelyn Gontier from Argentina, Sindy Portillo from El Salvador, Ines Beisso from Uruguay and Lia Reyes from Costa Rica. Gontier was the one who rode the first wave, but the Salvadoran quickly gave her answer by positioning herself as the leader, walking towards the front of the board with style and good use of rails on the cutbacks. Portillo advanced in first position (11.67pts), followed by Reyes (11.30), Beisso was third and Gontier was fourth.

In the following Heat, Atalanta Batista (Brazil) and Ana Camila Kaspar (Peru) advanced to the semifinals, after a series with smaller waves and sections that did not connect. The Peruvian athlete surpassed the Puerto Rican Iana Ramírez, with tight scores at the end of the heat, adding 3.90 and 3.20 points.

“I am very happy to advance to the next round. Thank all who support me, family and sponsors. Thank God for sending strength. This process continues, we continue to receive the support of the people in this championship that has a very high level”, Batista pointed out.

In Heat 3, Mathea Olin (Canada), 2017 PASG Bronze medalist, impressed with her long hang tens in waves that reached 2 meters high, leaving reigning Pan American champion Chloé Calmon from second place. Brazil. María Fernanda Reyes (Peru) and Agostina Pellizzari (Argentina) were left out of the event after finishing third and fourth respectively.

In the last heat, first place was won by Chilean Samantha Wilson, an athlete who was active throughout her series, presenting hang five and hang ten in long waves and good wall. In her last exchange of waves, the Chilean managed to overcome Olivia Stokes (Canada). Both athletes advance to the semifinals of the event.
